Baker & Taylor deploys diversity analysis tool for library collections

Baker & Taylor “will provide an analytics solution for libraries to help them discover, manage and report on diversity issues. Supported by the powerful HQ Collection technology, Baker & Taylor’s Diversity Analysis will provide insight and identify opportunities by analyzing a library’s collection against industry accepted diversity topics. The tool will launch in July for Baker & Taylor customers as part of their collectionHQ subscription. Non-subscribers can purchase it “as a one-time, no-obligation consultation”. The tool can be used for a single analysis or to manage a collection over time.

The diversity analysis provides an avenue for the following:

  • Analyze a library’s fiction and non-fiction collections against industry accepted diversity topics;
  • Monitor the supply of diverse content to identify gaps system-wide and branch-level;
  • Evaluate the representation of diverse populations in print and digital collections;
  • Effectively communicate the diversity of a library’s collection to stakeholders in its community; and
  • Suggest lists for future development using a data-driven approach.
